Anime Like given The Movie: To the Sea
Given has always worked by making you sit in the silence between two people before anyone says the honest thing, and then dropping a song on top of it. This is the back half of what Hiiragi Mix set up: Hiiragi Kashima and Shizusumi Yagi pushing syh into existence, Ritsuka Uenoyama pulled into someone else's band, Mafuyu Sato still carrying Yuki's guitar and everything that came with it. The adult thread stays just as brutal, Haruki Nakayama wanting Akihiko Kaji, Akihiko still orbiting Ugetsu Murata's violin like a bad habit he can't name. The music isn't decoration here, it's the confession, which is why the OST does the heavy lifting the dialogue refuses to. If you cried when Mafuyu opened his mouth on that live house stage, you already know what this is going to do to you.
SYNOPSIS
The band Given has built momentum since their Shibuya audition, but they're still chasing their big break. Meanwhile, Mafuyu's past keeps surfacing through his childhood friends Hiiragi and Shizusumi, who are forging their own path as the band syh. When Ritsuka finds himself pulled between loyalty to Given and an opportunity with syh, the bonds holding both groups together face real pressure. Off stage, the complicated relationships between band members continue to shift: Haruki and Akihiko navigate their connection while Ugetsu watches from the sidelines, and new tensions bubble up as old feelings refuse to stay buried. As summer fades into autumn, each character confronts what they're willing to sacrifice for music and for the people they care about. The real question isn't whether they'll reach success, but whether the friendships that got them this far can survive the cost of chasing it.
