It opens with kids drifting out their bedroom windows in pajamas, following a melody into the night sky, and that image does more damage than any monster design in the TV run. Then it makes the whole thing personal: Chibiusa befriends Perle, the fairy boy holding the flute, and Queen Badiyanu wants her dream energy most of all because it burns brightest. That's the trick of this one. The Black Dream Hole isn't an evil plan so much as a grown-up eating childhood, and the Senshi have to fight it with the exact thing being stolen. In roughly an hour it does what the SuperS season kept circling, gives Usagi and Chibiusa a real bond instead of a running gag, and pays it off when Moon Gorgeous Meditation finally lands.
