Anime Like Speed
SYNOPSIS
A deceptively simple question drives this 1980 short film: has humanity actually moved forward, or are we just moving faster? The narrative weaves through snapshots of modern life, contrasting our obsession with speed and efficiency against timeless human behavior that refuses to change. What unfolds is a wry comedy about contradiction. We've built machines to save time, yet we're always rushing. Technology promises liberation, but delivers new anxieties. Characters chase efficiency in their daily routines, only to find themselves trapped in the same patterns their grandparents faced, just at higher velocity. Director Furukawa Takumi captures something genuinely funny in these contradictions without ever feeling mean-spirited. The film doesn't lecture or moralise. Instead, it observes, and lets you laugh at the absurdity of the gap between our technological capability and our actual progress as people.
